Amsterdam, February 2018...
Ranked on many prestigious industry listings as the number 1 hotel in Amsterdam, and I can understand why. Sophisticated luxury along the Gentlemen’s canal in the historic center of Amsterdam. Behind the 17th century façade you find polished marble a friendly welcome, elegant bedrooms and where the chefs of the 2-star Michelin restaurant ‘Libreije’s Zusje’ also prepare all the food for the Peacock alley, room service and banqueting functions. No wonder the Waldorf Astoria is on the Gold list of Condé Nast Traveler.
Many of the 93 rooms, suites and lofts have high ceilings, modern classic with large comfortable beds with crispy white linen. I love the soft tones of muted blue, cream, and grey. Today’s mod cons are all present - Nespresso machines, laptop-sized room safe, free Wi-Fi - but it’s the thoughtful, simple touches that do it for me; the light switches within convenient reach and all-round lighting in the spacious bathrooms. The hotel has one of the largest gardens in the city center of Amsterdam and a Guerlain spa with an indoor pool. Can it get any better?
